Animal Crossing: City Folk Out This Week!

Animal Crossing: Let's Go To The City (Wii)

That’s right, the adorable game which is Animal Crossing is making it’s debut on the Wii – finally! Previously available on the GameCube and and hugely popular on the DS, the Wii gets it’s turn. (Click on the images for more info.)

The story is you make up the story! You and up to three friends move to a new town and just live life. Whether it’s talking to the villagers, running errands, decorating your house, going on shopping sprees or a hundred other different things there is always something to do. It’s a game without being a game – it is another ‘little world’…

Your friends also have their own ‘towns’ (ie their own games), using the Wi-Fi feature you can hang out with your friends in their town. You can play in their games! And send each other messages. Did you know you can also play hide and seek?  I won’t tell you all the things you can do (there isn’t enough room anyway) I will let you discover for yourself.

Playing at different times of the year enables you to experience different activities, holidays and seasons. What I find so exciting about this game is that the days and seasons pass in real time, meaning when it’s Christmas Day here it’s Christmas Day over there. Play the game on the 25th December and it will be snowing in your little village, play on Halloween and all the town characters will be wearing scary masks – you may even see a ghost! That was my whole reason for buying the game – I’d never heard of anything like it! A game that plays in real time? New to me!

Oh and if you visit a friend in another country, you will experience the holidays native to their culture! Sounds brilliant doesn’t it?  Well it is brilliant.  It’s great fun. I have this on the Gamecube and I loved it, but I did start to get a little worried when I had to check what was going on every night in my little village. Not normal behaviour for a woman in her twenties (late twenties I might add!)

Don’t take my word for it either – this version of the game is getting rave reviews everywhere. Nintendo Official Magazine have given it their Gold Award Seal Of Approval, and the other mags and websites have given similar marks. I will warn you though: This game is addictive. Get ready for hours to pass by in a flash! Or as Nintendo Magazine put it ‘Prepare To Lose Your Precious Social Life’. What social life? This IS your social life! (Especially with the introduction of Wii Speak)

Animal Crossing: Let's Go To The City with Wii Speak (Wii)

Do you know what Wii Speak is? Wii Speak is a little device which you attach to your Wii, which will allow you to communicate with your friends online while you play your Wii – ‘social online networking’ is the proper term! So you will also be able to talk to your friends while you all play the same game, whether they are in your game (your town) or in their game (their town). The Wii has been crying out for something like this, and this addition can only add to it’s fun factor.

There will be a Wii Speak Channel launched this Friday to coincide with it’s inclusion in the release of the game. Of course only those with Wii Speak will be able to use it.

Animal Crossing: City Folk comes out on the 5th December with or without Wii Speak.
